Neonatal Nursing in South Australia

Clinical placements are offered for graduate nurses in neonatal units, and third year nursing and midwifery students can also access neonatal units for placements during their training. Direct entry midwives cannot currently work in a NICU in South Australia, but can work in a SCBU. To learn more about nursing babies in neonatal intensive care, you can undertake a neonatal intensive care certificate, and to learn about nursing babies in a special care unit, you can undertake a needed special care certificate. In South Australia, these two courses are conducted in collaboration between Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) and Women's and Children’s Hospital (WCH) and are accredited with Flinders University.
