About the facility and role

The Mount Isa Hospital's Special Care Nursery (SCN) provides high quality, evidenced based, family-centred neonatal care resulting in optimal and safe outcomes for Neonates and their families in the North West Queensland region.

The SCN is a 3 cot, Level 4 unit and cares mostly for premature and term infants requiring special care. Specialist skills are required to provide this care and therefore trained nurses in this field are essential, all nurses must be competent in continuous positive airway pressure support, advanced neonatal resuscitation and stabilisation.

Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences. Pre-employment screening, including criminal history checks and Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role compliance, will be conducted for the successful candidate. VPD risk roles may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, COVID-19 and Influenza. A 6-month probationary period may apply.
