About the role

Mater Mothers Hospital currently has exciting opportunities available within our exceptional Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU) team for passionate and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Consultants.  

As the Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will collaborate with consumers, managers and the multidisciplinary team to develop and deliver safe, effective and efficient models of care and clinical practice that best meet the health needs of patients consistent with the strategic directions of Mater Health Service.  

The Mater Mothers Hospital NCCU is one of Australia’s largest, comprising of 45 intensive care and 34 special care cot spaces. Our NCCU is a highly specialised and complex perinatal tertiary referral centre for sick and preterm babies and babies requiring cardiac and surgical care for the Southeast and central Queensland regions.  

Salary range: $50.15 - $56.29 (CNC Level 3) per hour plus superannuation    

What you’ll be doing

Your role will be focussing on quality, research and education, while acting as the clinical lead for the unit.  

As a valued member of the team you will:  

  • Provide clinical expertise in the ongoing review and implementation of advanced clinical practice by participating in the planning, implementation and evaluation of care to patients based on evidence and recognised practice standards
  • Demonstrate leadership which uses and facilitates evidence based practice which is visionary, creative and innovative when considering contemporary neonatal issues in relation to service delivery, clinical practice and research; as well as informing the development, management and ongoing review of clinical processes
  • Actively contribute through the provision of expert clinical advice and effective specialty education programs that focus on improving the capability of nurses and teams to deliver safe quality care 
  • Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, other health care professionals and managers to provide expert consultancy to improve safety and quality of care by demonstrating a range of capabilities relating to evidence based practice, clinical service planning and change management

About you

As the successful candidate you will possess:

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and no restrictions
  • Minimum 5 years full time equivalent post-registration experience in neonatal nursing
  • Completed/working towards Masters of Nursing - Clinical Practice (Neonatal Specialty)
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership, clinical supervision, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Proven ability to initiate and conduct nursing research, implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence based research.
  • Proven ability to provide consultancy support to nurses and other health professionals
  • Commitment to interprofessional education and professional development with demonstrated teaching skills and ability to develop and implement education programs that meet the needs of patients, families and health care professionals
