The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Clinical Nurse (Neonatal Discharge Coordinator) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will take responsibility for

  • Facilitate the provision of effective and efficient back transfer and discharge planning for inpatients and families of the Newborn Care Unit
  • Establish close links and effective communication processes with referring regional neonatal units across Queensland and Northern New South Wales
  • Coordinate leadership and support to the inpatient neonatal nursing team and multidisciplinary team regarding discharge education, planning and back transfer processes, with a focus on early intervention
  • Facilitate overnight oximetry monitoring for both neonatal inpatients who are oxygen dependent and outpatient neonatal clients on home oxygen; undertaking the download of data and liaising closely with the neonatal specialist to review the data
  • Coordinate and support the Neonatal Retinopathy of Prematurity ophthalmology clinic for both inpatient and outpatient clients

Requirements for the role

  • A Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position
  • Registration as a Registered Nurse under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 with a current annual practicing certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is essential
  • This position requires effective computer skills to use clinical information systems and other applications relevant to role
  • This position may be required to work across Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service

Salary information

  • Permanent full time
  • Base salary ranging from $47.68 - $51.05 p.h.
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading

About Child and Youth Mental Health Services
The Newborn Care Unit (NCU) at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) falls under Women’s, Newborn and Children’s Services (WNCS) and is comprised of a 9 cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a 24 cot Special Care Nursery (SCN).

The NICU admits babies fulfilling Level 6 Queensland Clinical Services Capability Framework criteria which includes but is not limited to:

  • 24 weeks gestation
  • Parenteral Nutrition
  • Nitric Oxide therapy
  • Exchange transfusions
  • Therapeutic cooling
  • Neonatal surgical procedures
  • Multiple modes of mechanical ventilation including High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation
