NUM - Special Care/Transition To Home Nursery

About the role
Mater Mothers’ Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Nurse Unit Manager for our Special Care/Transition to Home Nursery. This position will be offered on a fixed term contract, working  full-time from 18 July 2022 – 16 July 2023.

The Neonatal Critical Care Unit is a 79-bed perinatal tertiary referral centre which provides care for approximately 2000 babies per year. It is comprised of 47 intensive care beds, separated into Preterm/Medical and Cardiac/Surgical units, and 32 Special Care beds with access to additional rooming in facilities as required. As part of our leadership team you will join a highly specialised and complex service which has a strong focus on quality improvements and commitment to deliver excellent patient experiences and outcomes.

As the Nurse Unit Manager for Special Care Nursery you will be responsible for clinical and operational management and will positively contribute to the existing culture of exceptional quality care delivered in accordance with best practice standards and in a highly collaborative environment. 

What you’ll be doing
The successful applicant will be responsible for the clinical and operational management of the Special Care/Transition to Home Nursery, providing public and private care in a Level 6 Neonatal Nursery within the Mater Mothers’ Hospital.

The ideal applicant will possess an enthusiastic and mature attitude, demonstrate the ability to work in a large multidisciplinary team environment and understand the Mater Mission and values with proven ability to promote its application within the Neonatal Critical Care Unit. 

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Caring for and leading a team of professionals
  • Communication and coordination of patient care
  • Engagement with stakeholders in other departments to ensure the highest quality family centred care, that services are efficient and that patient safety is optimized
  • Team management, including performance management and compliance with Human Resources processes
  • Delivery of work against relevant timeframes

About you
To be considered for the role you will have:

  • Post graduate qualification in Neonatal Nursing
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and time management skills within a multidisciplinary team
  • Competence to lead and manage a clinical team to optimise customer and organisational outcomes
  • Ability to effectively manage a clinical cost centre
  • Demonstrated application of the principles of risk management and quality improvement in a clinical environment
  • Understanding and application of contemporary human resource management practices
  • You will have strong leadership ability and experience, excellent time management skills and the desire to promote the philosophy and values of the Sisters of Mercy and Mater Values to all staff.Why join us?
