Registered Nurse - Neonatal CCU

About the role
The Mater Mothers Hospital Cardiac/Surgical Neonatal Critical Care Unit currently has an opportunity available for permanent full time Registered Nurse to join the team.

The Neonatal Critical Care Unit is a 79 bed perinatal tertiary referral centre which provides care for approximately 2000 babies per year. Within this unit is a cohort of highly specialised and complex babies requiring intensive care in collaboration with multiple sub specialty teams from the state-wide children’s hospital. You will be part of large multidisciplinary teams caring for babies with cardiac, surgical, neurosurgical, renal and other complex conditions and supporting families as part of our team.

You will care for babies and families that have been born at MMH and babies that have been retrieved from other centres state-wide for specialist care. Some of the experiences you will provide will be:

  • Facilitating the transfer of babies from the NCCU to the children’s hospital for operative and investigative procedures and return for ongoing care in the NCCU.
  • Assisting with cardiac procedures performed in the NCCU
  • Stabilizing and supporting preoperative care for babies born with cardiac conditions
  • Pre and post-operative care of a range of neonatal surgical conditions
  • Opportunity for complex case management of high risk woman with suspected congenital neonatal abnormalities
  • Provide newborn resuscitation for complex babies requiring specialist care both including preterm babies
  • Work within a high functioning and dynamic team enhancing professional growth opportunities

Registered Nurse Salary: $37.23 - $47.84 (Registered Nurse Level 1) per hour plus superannuation

As a Registered Nurse, you will be part of a high-functioning team, providing high quality care to patients, supporting the general function of the unit using best practice principles and education, whilst drawing upon your extensive nursing/midwifery and neonatal experience.

You will be provided the opportunity to gain highly specialised skills across a diverse range of neonatal conditions that are complex in nature. You will also experience working as part of a team that is committed and focused on a positive workplace culture.

About you
As the successful applicant you will have:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse with Midwife Registration
  • Experience in neonatal intensive care or similar environment is essential
  • Postgraduate neonatal qualification or equivalent (or a willingness to complete this qualification upon commencement in this role)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and clinical problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to the continued quality improvement and best practice principles
  • Demonstrated collaborative and engaging team approach and ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Understanding of the Mater mission and values and the ability to engage others in living the values in NCCU
