Nutrition & feeding is an important part of the experience of families whose infant requires admission to a neonatal unit. Successful establishment of feeding is affected by various factors, such as, prematurity, neurological impairment, congenital abnormalities, surgery or maternal conditions and choices. Supporting infants and their families on their feeding journey can have a significant effect on the development of positive healthy feeding behaviours.

Neonatal nurses and neonatal lactation consultants provide care and education that optimises feeding outcomes. The SIG is available to recommend resources relating to nutrition & feeding, provides learning opportunities, peer support and guidance.
