Virtual presentation hosted by the WA branch
Topic:
“QI and research for optimising breastfeeding success for NICU families”
Presenter: Sharon Perrella
Bio: Sharon is a registered nurse and midwife, and IBCLC with extensive NICU experience, now working as a Research Fellow
with the Geddes Hartmann Human Lactation Research Group at The University of Western Australia. Her research interests include
establishment of lactation, and the development of breastfeeding skills in sick and preterm mother-infant dyads.
Synopsis: In this presentation Sharon will provide an overview of the paradox of breastfeeding in the NICU context,
with the provision of mother’s own milk so important to infant health outcomes but also challenging on so many levels. Neonatal nurses
have a unique role in supporting mothers with milk expression and breastfeeding that can be optimised using simple QI strategies…or a
research project if you are hungry for more!! (If you are cringing when reading “QI” and “research” don’t worry, I get it – I was the
same…but please join me to see how you can make these tools work for you to make a real difference to the families in your care).
Cost: Free for ACNN members; $22 for non-members. Member discount applied when logged in.
