Presenter: Doug Blank is a Neonatal Consultant at Monash Newborn and with the
Perinatal Infant and Paediatric Emergency Retrieval service at the Royal Children's Hospital. He was trained in the USA, completing a
fellowship in neonatology at the University of California, San Diego, before moving to Melbourne to further his education as a
clinician-scientist. He completed a PhD at Monash University in 2018, studying physiological changes and birth and investigating strategies
to improve care during neonatal resuscitation, while working at the Royal Women's Hospital as a Fellow. The same year he started working as
a consultant at Monash Newborn. He is a senior lecturer at the Ritchie Centre (Monash University). He has led randomised clinical
trials to improve spontaneous breathing at birth and provide respiratory support prior to umbilical cord clamping (physiologically based
cord clamping). He established Australia's first neonatal resuscitation video review program at Monash Newborn, in which high-risk births
are reviewed for education and quality improvement. His work is current being supported by an NH&MRC Emerging Leadership Grant
(2022-26). Outside of work, he enjoys exploring Victoria's excellent beaches with his wife and four school age kids.
