Speakers

Dr Deanne August has two decades of Neonatal and Women’s clinical experience; including retrievals and operating settings. She is a uniquely specialised Neonatal Skin Integrity and Research Nurse; recognised nationally and internationally and demonstrated by her track record (>35 publication, >340 citations, H-index of 10), competitive funding (n=16 service evaluations/observational studies, n=5 multicentre trials; PhD: Mechanical force skin injuries, completed 2022). Her clinical experiences cultivate drive for improving practice and minimise negative sequalae. Her completive programme includes feasibility/pre-clinical, randomised control trials, implementation, and review studies; with embedded workload and neonatal/family experience evaluations; and outcomes are citated locally and internationally.  

Amy Bodley, Stomal Therapy, Wound and Urology Clinical Nurse Consultant, Monash Children's Hospital.  Amy holds a diverse array of qualifications, including a Master in Paediatric Nursing, a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing specialised in Wound, Ostomy and Continence, and a Bachelor of Nursing. Despite exploring different avenues, her heart always gravitated towards paediatric surgical nursing. Amy's fascination with paediatric surgical nursing extended to wound healing, stoma care and paediatric urology, igniting a fervent dedication to these fields. Since 2015, Amy has been an integral part of the Stomal Therapy Department at Monash Medical Centre, and now Monash Children's Hospital. In this role, she offers comprehensive ostomy, wound and urology care to patients and their families.

Ann Marie Dunk, RN BHth Sc(Nurs) Wound Care Cert, MNurs(Research) MACN. Ann Marie is the Clinical Nurse Consultant for the Tissue Viability Unit at Canberra Hospital. She has an extensive wound management background and has a Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Nursing by Research and is a PhD candidate with Ghent University, Belgium within the SKINT (Skin Integrity Research Group). She had conducted numerous research and quality projects and presented nationally and internationally and has published in this field. In 2011 she was awarded ACT Nursing and Research Excellence and in 2015 she was awarded Australian Capital Territory Nurse of the Year. She has been a board member of the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel, representing Australia and an active member of Wounds Australia.  In 2023 awarded Canberra Health Services CEO “Learning in Practice” award in recognition of the Tissue Viability Unit at Canberra Hospital. In 2024 Chaired the Inaugural Solventum ANZ Skin Integrity Forum, in Sydney, Australia.

Louise Murphy has 25yrs clinical NICU experience, combining roles of RN, CNE, Clinical NUM and is currently the CNC for Liverpool NICU. A passion for education, simulation, patient safety and human factors, Louise has post graduate qualifications in NICU and Child and Family Health, a Masters in Clinical Education and is also a Nurse Immuniser. Louise coordinates the Liverpool NICU Skin care special interest group, follows the Tiny Baby Collaborative and is always on the look out for the next innovation in wound care, particularly with the extreme preterm neonates. Her current interest in is NICU Quality Improvement and is undertaking the CEC Applied Quality and Safety Course, looking at reducing CLABSI in the NICU.

Dr. Sabrina de Souza is a Post-doctoral research fellow at The University of Queensland. As a paediatric and neonatal nursing researcher, she is dedicated to enhancing patient safety in critical care environments. Dr. de Souza specializes in evidence-based training for neonatal and paediatric nurses in vascular access device management, with a research profile that includes an h-index of 12 and 566 citations (Google Scholar, Nov 2024). She has also lectured in undergraduate nursing programs and graduate certificate courses, where she emphasizes bridging theoretical knowledge with practical insights to prepare future healthcare professionals for paediatric and neonatal care. Her current research focuses on improving vascular access outcomes by exploring clinical practices and evaluating innovative technologies for the care of children and neonates.

Emily Larsen is a Research Fellow with a joint position between the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and Griffith University. Ms Larsen current research focus explores the role, and development of Patient Reported Outcome and Experience Measures for peripheral- and central- venous access catheters. Ms Larsen’s interests and expertise also include vascular access devices in Cancer Care; and the classification, and prevention of CVAD-associated skin injury and central line-associated bloodstream infections.

Mackenzie Boundy, is a neonatal nurse based in Brisbane with a strong passion for improving neonatal stoma management. She championed the innovative use of absorbent devices in stoma bags to minimise leakage, leading to the development of the TGA-approved Stomal Sponge. Committed to advancing neonatal care, she aims to integrate evidence-based practice with innovation to enhance stoma management and improve outcomes for neonates and their families.
  


 

Judy Macey has had many roles over the past 35 years at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital and Mater Research, including clinical nurse/ midwife, neonatal nurse, lactation consultant, educator, and researcher. More recently Judy has been working in the growth and development clinic observing the NCCU graduates coming through for monitoring of their development and for school readiness. Judy has had a special interest in neonatal skin and skin care over the years and recently completed her thesis in the prevalence of newborn skin injuries at birth for her master’s at QUT. She is a member of both the Neo-skin SIG and the Low Resource Countries SIG. 


Lyn is a Clinical Nurse who has worked in Neonatal Intensive Care at the RBWH for over 30 years. During that time, she has held many roles, including management, education and working in the neonatal retrieval service. More recently Lyn has become involved in research within the department. Lyn’s passions include provision of excellence in clinical care, promoting leadership in nurses at all levels of their career as well as nurturing the next generation of Neonatal Nurses. Lyn also has a special interest in neonatal skin and skin care and support educational opportunities for low resourced countries.
