Consultation, Endorsement and Development of Guidelines

ACNN welcomes invitations to consult on guidelines and/or clinical material related to neonatal nursing and care of the neonate and family. This may include, but is not limited to, aspects of individualised care for preterm, sick and recovering newborn infants within a family centred philosophy; and standards for clinical practice, research and education.

In considering endorsement of published clinical practice guideline/s and other material/s, the scope, content, rigour of development, clarity of presentation, involvement of neonatal nurses and consumers in the development of materials will be critically reviewed by ACNN. Additionally, its applicability and alignment with ACNN's philosophy and strategic plan will be considered. The endorsement period will be for a maximum of four years and endorsement only pertains to the version reviewed and endorsed by ACNN.

Guidelines will be assessed using the “Appraisal of Guidelines for Research & Evaluation” - AGREE II instrument and/or the iCAHE Guideline Quality Check List.

In developing clinical practice guidelines, ACNN encourages the adherence to the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) standards for development of clinical guidelines.

The National Executive is supportive of  members developing a national guideline on a topic that has been identified as in need of a clinical practice guideline.
