Topic: Review of current skin care practices
Dr Deanne August is a post-doc research fellow, Nurse Researcher and Registered Nurse with over 20 years' experience in neonatal care.
She leads a dynamic programme of nurse lead research, focused on improving neonatal skin care, at the Royal Brisbane and Women's
Hospital, Metro North and Griffith University.
Her clinical background includes Neonatal Care, Paediatric Critical Care, Hospital Acquired Complications and Wound Care. She is
passionate that research must identify evidence while also considering the implications for clinical workloads, consumer experiences and the
capability for outcomes to be translated into practice.
Topic: The role of a neonatal nurse in emerging research
Cindy Campbell started her journey in the NICU at King Edward Memorial Hospital in 1998. After stepping away for 10 years to raise four
children, Cindy returned to neonatal nursing in 2011 and completed a Certificate in Critical Care Nursing in 2022. More recently Cindy moved
into research, focusing on neonatal skin. This has been a steep learning curve, but also a fascinating one, and now realising how important
skin is for protecting and supporting the growth of preterm neonates. The possibilities for improvement in this area is exciting including
being involved in a trial investigating a product designed to protect the fragile skin of extremely preterm neonates.
Topic: A case study and related practice implications
Ritsue Phillips has over 25 years of clinical experience and has qualifications in Paediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care. In 2011,
Ritsue completed the Neonatal Intensive Care course at Flinders Medical Centre and is currently working as a senior neonatal nurse in
the Neonatal Unit at Flinders Medical Centre. Ritsue’s interest in neonatal skin care and desire to learn more in this area led her to
joining to Neo-Skin committee.
